#wearredday My mother passed away very suddenly from a heart attack 34 years ago and it feels like yesterday. I just finished my junior year of college with a semester abroad in London. I was a first-generation college student, and it was my very first plane ride.

She saved (and rolled) every penny she could. Worked double and triple shifts as a waitress. She cried when I left, and cried even harder when I came home.

I was her only child and she was my best friend.

After she passed, I found out that she had rheumatic heart disease as a child, but no one ever really talked about that anymore. Or the harmful effects of stress with an already weakened heart. I just knew that her heart was the best part about her.

On #wearredday I remember her and everyone who has survived and lost the battle of heart disease. I ask you to do the same.
